What a person can expect from a church-based, leadership development program:
Developed in biblical thinking.
We aim for no less than a thorough knowledge of the Bible, a clear understanding of major doctrines, enhanced abilities to study and teach others God’s Word, and a biblical foundation for ministry. In this, the goal is not accumulation of academic knowledge. The goal is a life marked by greater love for God and neighbor. Persistence in this area is crucial because, as Paul tells Timothy, “for by doing so you will save yourself and your hearers” (1 Timothy 4:16).
Challenged in personal character.
We aim for each LDIer to take seriously Paul’s admonition to not let sin reign that you would follow its passions (Romans 6:12). Rather, sin that can so easily entangle is thrown off daily (Hebrews 12:1) so that the LDIer might “set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in lover, in faith, and in purity” (1 Timothy 4:12). We strive for the highest character possible – that of Jesus Christ. This is not of secondary importance. Many a man and woman who were on their way to becoming kingdom impact players have been disqualified for leadership due to failure in this area.
Involved in ministry opportunities.
We aim for significant involvement in ministries where the LDIer is utilizing their spiritual gifts, applying the teachings of Scripture, being challenged to grow in their leadership, and serving with humility the needs of those both inside and outside of the church. While we acknowledge the role formal education can play in ministry, we believe the best context for leadership formation is “on the job training” in a local church setting. Each LDIer will be expected to jump in both feet to what God is doing.
